FRE 355 Contemporary Francophone Literature

In this course we read literary works of varied genres in French by authors writing in Belgium, France, the Arab world, Sub-Saharan Africa, Quebec, the Antilles, and Oceania. In reading the literatures in their original language, we discuss themes of linguistic variation in French, notions of self-writing, diaspora, “negritude”, decolonization, globalization, and the representation of difference through fiction.
