Department Goals
Covenant’s Health and Physical Education (HPE) Department provides students with an in-depth study of the human body and its various functions as they relate to health, fitness, and sport within a Christian world and life view. Core courses provide an understanding of nutritional aspects of good health as well as a thorough study of contemporary issues in health and fitness. The department also emphasizes the value of lifestyle activities, cardiovascular fitness, muscle integrity, and lifetime recreational sports for all. Since upper division Health and Physical Education courses are offered on an every fourth semester rotation, students desiring to minor in Coaching, or use the Coaching IDS disciplines need to begin taking courses in those areas by the first semester of their sophomore year if they plan to finish the requirements in four years. Failure to do so may cause the student to take course work beyond the traditional four year program.
