LIN 150 Introduction to Linguistics This course introduces students to the systematic study of human language. The course surveys the major subfields of linguistics: the study of sounds and sound patterns (phonetics and phonology); words and their parts (morphology); and the structure, meaning, and use of phrases and sentences (syntax, semantics, and pragmatics). The focus is on analyzing language data. Additional topics may include language learning, historical language change, and social aspects of language variation and use. 3 hour(s). SSC
