ART 237 Fibers and Materials


An introductory course in the study of fibers in its artistic applications. This course will explore the meaning and the 3-D potential of traditional and non-traditional fiber materials. Students will be introduced to traditional methods of construction that will be used for non-traditional ends, and engaging the intersection of art and craft. Emphasis is placed on concept development, meaning, process, execution, as well as the installation of the product in space and on the body. Students will learn by machine sewing and a variety of hand construction techniques. Conceptual and historic issues in fibers and process will be discussed. Prerequisite(s): ART 110  or permission of instructor. Six hours studio. Course fee: $120. 3 hour(s).
